Step-by-Step Guide to Safely Using Jack Stands

To use jack stands safely, start by preparing your workspace on a flat surface and clearing any obstacles around the vehicle. Gather your equipment, including jack stands rated for your vehicle's weight, a reliable floor jack, and wheel chocks. Position the vehicle, ensuring it’s parked safely with the engine off and the parking brake engaged. Use the wheel chocks to prevent rolling. Next, locate the proper lift points from your vehicle’s manual and raise the vehicle with the floor jack until it's high enough for the jack stands. Place the stands under the vehicle at the designated support points, ensuring they’re on a flat surface and the locking mechanism is engaged. Carefully lower the vehicle onto the stands and check for stability by gently shaking it. Once secure, perform your maintenance work, and when finished, use the floor jack to lift the vehicle again to remove the stands. Lower the vehicle back to the ground, remove the wheel chocks, and conduct a final check to ensure everything is secure before driving away.
